Fundraising for Legal Representation
How to Donate
Since 2016, many people have offered to make financial contributions towards the Brown Not Green campaign. We had declined taking funds until we had appropriate safeguards and methods to accept donations in place. We also wanted to see the Council’s response to the Green Belt Consultation that ended in December 2016 to see if legal funding would be required.
Sadly, the Council’s indicated “direction of travel” in November 2017 regarding the Green Belt housing proposals at Lye Green Chesham are not only to remove the site from Green Belt designation but to “safeguard” the land for future development EITHER after the end of the Plan Period (2036) OR after any interim Local Plan review, which could be undertaken as soon as 5 years from now. BNG has now felt it appropriate to retain a specialist Planning Barrister to advise us before the final Draft Local Plan emerges when a strict statutory period in which to make a formal final responses then applies. That will be followed some months later by a Local Plan Inquiry (Examination in Public) where we feel the community will also need that Barrister to make our case at the hearing and cross examine the Council Officers on these proposals.
We will be using Landmark Chambers for Legal advice as they specialise in planning cases. Sasha Blackmore and the strong team behind her will be representing us.
There will be a cost attached to this and although several thousand pounds have generously been donated already by a few local people, we need to raise at least £20,000 just to ensure we can fund the legal representation.
To facilitate this Brown Not Green (BNG) incorporated as a private not for profit company limited by guarantee in June 2017:
Brown Not Green Chesham Ltd (Co No 10810899). The company documents can be seen here:Board of Directors has been established. The following represents the key principles of our fundraising policy:

This is a site dedicated to funding legal cases in the public interest. It is run by lawyers and is independent to BNG. CrowdJustice have verified who we are and that we have retained a genuine lawyer.
